Know India - A Unique Pedagogy

India has emerged as an important business destination in the global economy. Its fast-growing economy offers a number of advantages to its own citizens as well as the foreigners interested in business opportunities.

Most business schools have incorporated the study of growing Indian economy in their curricula. The SPJIMR faculty members however embarked on an interesting experiment with “Know India” project. Know India aims to prepare a repository of reading material that reflects “The India Story” with not only gives economic overview but also reflects the richness of the country's socio-cultural diversity.

This is how it works: the faculties at SPJIMR including Hon. Dean Dr. Shrikant have chosen more than a dozen books written on India to prepare the summary of these books.The books chosen for reading belong to four broad categories:
1) books written by practitioners and entrepreneurs in India such as Nandan Nilekani and Kamal Nath
2) books written by professors of Indian origin fromforeign universities such as Tarun Khanna and Nirmalya Kumar
3) books written on the changing political scene globally and in India by writers such as Ramchandra Guha, Edward Luce and Fareed Zakaria
4) books written on socio-cultural aspects of India, by writers such asRamaBijapurkar and Geoff Hiscock.

The unique pedagogy experiment will bring to classroom the latest thinking on the current issues in India. The ‘Know India’ project would help PGDM, PGPM and EMP participants from India and abroad, for doing the course on “Doing Business in India”.
