Its phenomenal today that Machine Learning is taking a pole position almost in every arena. In the past couple of years it is becoming more and more apparent that all of us will some way experience machine learning capabilities or facets through usage of digital media. The ‘Clouds’ are coming in full strength offering services that have embedded the machine learning component. The likes of Microsoft and Google and Amazon are advocating use of ML in every way.

The most fascinating feature is the interplay amongst the desktop operating systems, programming languages, the Big Data and Machine learning. The landscape of the computer world is transforming to a completely new age, new era requiring newer specialists. It is vital that one recognizes the juggernaut that is coming our way. The businesses and the individuals alike have the start not only understanding significance but also imbibe newer ways of working in the field.

Its an astonishing fact the ‘Clouds’ are taking new avatars very very quickly, it’s a dancing landscape that the users and consumers are going to look at. As an instance just see the rise of Big Data and the tools required to make meaning out of it. There is tonnes of data getting created and with the skyrocketing deployment of IOT the Big Data is also ballooning. We will need different tooling to handle and manage such a tidal wave, more important we need expertise that we never had earlier to cope with it. The business graduates and engineers alike have to brace themselves for this new impact and move forward real quick. If not they are going to be left behind with no clue what hit them.

I agree that machine learning and big data is gaining ground rapidly and will change the IT landscape in near future but don’t agree completely that it will make most of current IT workforce irrelevant. There will be still huge workforce required to maintain the traditional IT landscape. This revolution, similar to smart phone revolution few years back, will be enhancing the scope of IT to almost every field of real life. This revolution will also increase the size of IT landscape. Inclusion of IOT and big data technologies should be taken as opportunity since increased size of IT landscape will require more workforce to manage it. The basic Information Technology skills like hardware and operating system management, virtualization, databases and network management etc. will still be relevant for managing major part of IT landscape. Addition of IOT device management skills in their skill set will keep them relevant in changed scenario. The IT community which will be widely affected is developer’s community. Till now developers don’t think much about where do their codes will be executed? With invent of IOT, developers have to consider the characteristics of IOT device and incorporate it in their coding. IOT devices are going to be placed outside data canters. They may become soft target for hackers and security threat to complete IT landscape. Managing security of IOT devices will be major challenge for security administrators and developers. Security Administrators will need to develop skills to manage security of these devices spread across wide geography and developers need to include security controls in their coding to make it safe and secure.

I enjoyed a lot reading this article sir. It throws light on a very important aspect of the business world. Technology is not an enabler anymore. It is changing its role to a controller. Machines are learning fast and giving solutions within seconds. Businesses are implementing these to gain a strategic advantage. As graduates from a Business school, we need to have knowledge about the systems that are controlling decisions having a business impact at various phases. Only then we will be able to understand problems better and act on them. The rise of IOT looks like a recent phenomenon but I got perplexed seeing the progress companies have made in this field. IOT is collecting our previous thoughts and actions together, processing the data and suggesting future actions. It is collecting health data, shopping data, personal income and expenses data every second and storing it. Google, Amazon, Microsoft and numerous startups are in this race to up their game in this field. They are coming with various products and integrations. Google's AI has clearly mentioned in their vision statement that AI will have the greatest impact when everyone can access it, and when it’s built with everyone’s benefit in mind. Microsoft believes that when designed with people at the centre, AI can extend your capabilities, free you up for more creative and strategic endeavours, and help you or your organization achieve more. Two important breakthroughs led to the emergence of Machine Learning as the vehicle which is driving AI development forward with the speed it currently has. One of these was the realization – credited to Arthur Samuel in 1959 – that rather than teaching computers everything they need to know about the world and how to carry out tasks, it might be possible to teach them to learn for themselves. The second, more recently, was the emergence of the internet, and the huge increase in the amount of digital information being generated, stored and made available for analysis. It is imperative for each one of us to keep an eye on these emerging technologies. I agree with sir on the impending need to work to create expertise and workforce to handle the waves of AI and Cloud computing.

Sir It was really interesting to read the article. I am excited and passionate for the subject. It throws light on a very important aspect of the Industry mainly Indian Industry where Technology is still a big enabler to support our decision making. It gives an approach for leveraging the digital capabilities to transform processes, Organizations Strategies and/or Business models within the organization or across their value chain. Netflix, google, amazon as rightly said is using this algorithm, machine learning to generate Ads and revenue. Face, handwriting recognition is being easily used now a days thru AI and machine learning. AI means revolutionizing the industrial trends…taking it to newer heights, changing the face of world. The new era awaits where men blends ultimate creativity with technology .And it is growing exponentially. I am from automobile Industry and will correlate this with our Industry .Machine learning and AI seems as huge, powerful and overwhelming force coming and appearing as future in Indian Industry .This is more of Digital India and Industry 4.0. Intelligent Manufacturing system where in Man, Machine & product communicate to each other to build a industry 4.0 platform for real time monitoring of process & production systems. Huge data is being created in and around Industries .And understanding the data, analyzing, interpreting and planning actions on that is an herculean task. Which requires ample manpower. This is gives an edge to tools like Artificial Intelligence and Data analytic where the complete data is being interpreted and at a glance we are ready to take actions.AI is being used as intelligence to augment the abilities of people to enable to accomplish more to eliminate tedious and repetitive task and allow to spend more time on creative endeavors. Conventional manufacturing is turned in to smart manufacturing. Smart Manufacturing is an integrated tool designed on factory talk platform committed to eliminate manual dependency from manufacturing operations, capable for Various Quality & manufacturing Controls, Stage wise Vehicle Tracking, Automatic program selection for different models without scanning, Auto mail alerts, analytics tool, Data Recording for tractability with various dashboards for Quality, Maintenance, & Production.” Definitely I do agree with you that to handle and manage such a tidal wave we need skill set , Putting it aptly we need expertise which is Big challenge ,as still it is infant in our education system which has to grow at faster pace. But at the same time it will be creating future professional opportunities for future.

The technology space has entered into an existing phase with the advent of technologies like Internet of Things (IoT), Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Information Technology (IT) department has moved from being a business enablement function to a business differentiator function. The business advantage that these technologies provide has created a lot of excitement among business leaders and CIO of all big companies. There is a flip side to this which companies and organizations must guard against. As these technologies, provide opportunities for business growth business leaders and IT leaders must equip their organizations with the right set of trainings, knowledge and technical knowhow. These are interrelated and complex technologies and require a different mindset. IT teams may require retooling / re-skilling some of the existing workforce. It may also require bringing experts from outside the organization. The IT Leaders / CIO’s need to have a clear understanding of their organization strategy on how to enable their workforce to work on these technologies. Lack of proper skilled people working on these technologies may not yield the right results. Due to competition, companies will start adopting these technologies without a long term planning. Business leaders and IT leaders need to have a strategy and roadmap on how they plan to implement these technologies. Many times companies adopt technologies and the related tools and software to remain ahead of the competition. Due to lack of a proper technology roadmap, projects are implemented and software decisions are made. Over a period of time companies realize that the software and related tools selection may not have been the best and the entire technology set have to re-engineered and re-written. This does not have just a cost and time impact but also a possibility of falling behind the competition. Internet of Things, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence are new and evolving technologies and will take time to mature. Companies need to constantly be on their toes and understand how these technologies are evolving and make the required adjustments to realize the potential that these technologies can provide to the business.
